Celebrate the Christmas Story

Read and Share: The Story of Christmas HC

By Gwen Ellis / Thomas Nelson

Based on the International Children's Bible, this book begins with the birth of John the Baptist. Next comes the angel appearing first to Mary, then to Joseph, the trip to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, the angel's announcement to the shepherds, the wise men and their gifts, fleeing to Egypt, and at last heading home to Nazareth. The "Can You Retell the Story" activity at the end of the book is a fun way for children to learn to tell the story themselves. Hardcover.

My Thoughts ...

Don’t you just love it when you get a wonderful book and a bonus DVD? Well, only if the book and DVD are worth sharing. Consistently, Steve Smallman delights us with his warm illustrations as well. I have always enjoyed reading to my daughter stories written by Gwen Ellis.

This particular book is a retelling of the Christmas Story. I loved how they repeatedly showed the importance of angels in the Bible as messengers for God. Each of the stories showcases specific scripture references and a thought provoking question at the end of each mini story. I say mini story because each of the ten stories are only two pages long. The stories are simple and can hold the attention of any toddler. The book ends with a “Can You Retell the Story?” segment. What a fun way to recap on all the stories that a contained in this book. I recommend this book to any parent or grandparent that would like to introduce their loved ones to the real meaning of Christmas in a simple and fun manner. The bonus DVD contains six stories based on the life of Jesus.
